In a tragic incident on Sunday, a driver was fatally shot by a Colorado State Patrol trooper and deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office on U.S. 36 near McCaslin Boulevard, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

According to a news release from the state patrol, the incident unfolded around 11:40 a.m. when a trooper from the Colorado State Patrol responded to a call for assistance on Boulder-bound U.S. 36. Upon approaching the vehicle, the trooper noticed bullet holes in the window. Acting swiftly, the trooper retreated and called for additional officers for support.

The news release stated that deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office promptly arrived at the scene to provide backup to the initial responder. Together, they tried to deescalate the situation and ensure the safety of everyone involved.

However, as efforts were made to resolve the situation peacefully, the individual inside the vehicle reportedly picked up a gun.
