In a recent court filing on Tuesday, Special Counsel David Weiss heavily criticized Hunter Biden's request to subpoena former President Donald Trump and other former officials. Weiss argued that Biden's request is baseless and should be denied, stating that there is no evidence of bias, vindictiveness, or discriminatory intent on the part of the Special Counsel.

Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, had requested subpoenas against Trump, former Attorney General Bill Barr, and two other former Trump administration officials. He claimed that his gun crimes charge was politically motivated and originated within a vindictive Justice Department.

Weiss's filing pointed out a significant fact that no charges were brought against Biden during the previous administration when the subpoena recipients were in office. He highlighted that all the charges in this matter were or will be brought during the current administration, where President Biden holds office and Merrick B. Garland serves as the appointed Attorney General.

The Special Counsel argued that Biden failed to show any evidence of external pressure from political opponents that improperly influenced the decision to pursue charges against him. The filing emphasized that Biden's father, as the President of the United States, and Attorney General Garland, who appointed Weiss as the Special Counsel, were not improperly swayed.

Last month, Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell, claimed that the investigation into the president's son was a result of "incessant, improper, and partisan pressure" during the Trump administration. However, Weiss's filing dismissed these allegations, calling them unfounded.

Biden is currently awaiting trial for gun crimes, which is scheduled to commence after January 2024. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison. The charges against him include making false statements in the purchase of a firearm, making false statements related to information required by federal firearms licensed dealers, and possession of a firearm while being an unlawful user or addicted to a controlled substance.

Earlier this summer, Biden had agreed to a plea deal involving misdemeanor tax charges, which would have sidestepped prosecution on the gun charges if he maintained a clean record for two years. However, this agreement fell through under close scrutiny from a judge.

As the legal battle continues, the spotlight remains on Hunter Biden as he faces serious charges that could have far-reaching consequences for his future.
