CHICAGO - A wave of violence hit Chicago's South Side over the weekend, resulting in one fatality and leaving several others injured. The incidents included a series of shootings in Englewood, Roseland, and South Shore, along with an armed robbery in New City.

Late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, Chicago police responded to multiple reports of gunfire across the South Side communities. In Englewood, officers discovered a pickup truck crashed into a fence and a tree on the 6900 block of South Parnell Avenue. Inside the vehicle, they found an unidentified man with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite urgent medical attention at the University of Chicago Medical Center, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Approximately an hour earlier, police found a 53-year-old man shot multiple times in Roseland's 300 block of West 106th Street. The victim was standing on a sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown assailant who fired several shots before fleeing the scene. The injured man was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he remains in serious condition.

Another shooting occurred in South Shore late Saturday night within an apartment building on the 7100 block of South Merrill Avenue. A 24-year-old man was shot inside a third-floor apartment while in the company of several others. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and is currently in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

In Englewood, just before 10 p.m. Saturday, an altercation escalated into a shooting outside a residence on the 300 block of West Marquette Road. A 61-year-old man was shot in the right leg by an acquaintance. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Chicago police have one suspect in custody related to the shooting on West Marquette Road. However, they are actively searching for suspects in the other incidents that occurred within a two-hour timeframe.

In addition to the shootings, an armed robbery took place in New City on the South Side. A man entered a business in the 4500 block of South Ashland Avenue, demanding money at gunpoint. After firing a shot into the air, he fled with the cash from the register. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the suspect remains at large.

Early Sunday morning, a 25-year-old man became the victim of a drive-by shooting on the city's Southwest Side. Three males fired shots from the sidewalk in the 3300 block of West 60th Place in Chicago Lawn. The injured party was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is listed in stable condition.

As investigations into these incidents continue, Chicago residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any information to local authorities. The violence highlights the ongoing challenge of combating crime in certain areas of the city, and measures are being taken to address these concerns and ensure the safety of all residents.
