SAN DIEGO - As an atmospheric river storm descended upon Southern California, bringing heavy rain and potential flooding, residents across the region prepared for the inclement weather. The storm, which arrived on Sunday and is expected to continue throughout the week, has already caused road closures and prompted flood advisories in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest rain is anticipated to hit Orange, western Riverside, and southwestern San Bernardino counties on Monday. However, the axis of heavy rainfall is forecasted to shift towards San Diego and Riverside counties later on Monday, persisting into Tuesday. While the southern and inland areas of San Diego County may not experience substantial rainfall until Monday night, the potential for widespread showers remains throughout the week.

In North County, including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, and Fallbrook, a flood advisory was issued until early Monday morning. The advisory urged residents to exercise caution and be prepared for potential flooding in low-lying areas.

According to meteorologists, northern San Diego County is expected to receive between 2.5 and 3.25 inches of rain between Monday and Wednesday. Central and southern areas of the county can anticipate rainfall ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 inches. In the mountains of San Diego County, precipitation is projected to range from 1.5 to 4 inches, while the deserts should receive up to one inch of rain.

While the storm continues to impact the region, residents are advised to monitor road closures and stay updated with real-time weather reports. Showers are expected to persist throughout the week, but weather conditions are anticipated to improve by the start of next week, with fair and warm weather returning.

As Southern California braces for the effects of this atmospheric river storm, local authorities are encouraging residents to exercise caution, prepare for potential flooding, and follow any emergency guidelines or evacuation orders issued in their respective areas.
