Light to moderate snow is expected to continue falling across New Jersey throughout Friday, potentially creating a challenging evening commute. However, according to meteorologists, the latest forecast indicates that the snow will cease in the early evening, well before bedtime for most residents.
The snow is expected to gradually diminish from north to south, possibly starting as early as dinnertime. Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, predicts that the snow will taper off during the first half of the night. He anticipates that the northern part of the state will see an end to accumulating snow by 6 p.m., followed by the southern part around 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service agrees with AccuWeather's timeline for the snowfall's conclusion. The Mount Holly office, which covers most of New Jersey, warns that the evening commute could be affected to some extent. They expect that any remaining snow will push off the coast by 9 p.m. The New York office of the weather service, covering the northeastern counties, anticipates that chances of additional snowflakes will vanish by late Friday night.
A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 p.m. for selected counties, including Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem, where snowfall totals are expected to reach between 4 and 6 inches. The New Jersey counties not under the winter storm warning are under a winter weather advisory. North Jersey is expected to receive 2 to 3 inches of dry, powdery snow, while the counties along Interstate 195 in central New Jersey should see 3 to 4 inches. The Jersey Shore is forecasted to receive 2 inches of snow. AccuWeather.com predicts 1 to 3 inches of snow for the northern half of the state and 3 to 6 inches for South Jersey.
As the snowfall comes to an end, temperatures will remain in the upper teens and near 20 degrees. The weather service warns that wind chills could drop to single digits or near zero overnight. While no additional snow is expected for the weekend, bitterly cold temperatures will persist.
Overall, residents can expect the snowfall to taper off during the evening hours, allowing for some relief as they head home from work. However, they are advised to bundle up and be cautious of freezing temperatures overnight.
