Severe Weather Threat Forces Closure of Several Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia Counties

Jacksonville, Florida - A severe weather warning has prompted the closure of multiple counties in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, affecting schools, transportation, and after-school activities. As storms approach the region, officials are taking precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Ware County Schools, comprising all 12 schools, will be closed on Tuesday as reported by the school district. Glynn, Brantley, Camden, and Duval counties in Georgia have also announced the closure of their campuses due to the potential risks associated with severe weather, including high winds, power outages, tornadoes, and potential road and bridge closures.
Stressing the importance of student and staff safety, Glynn County Schools released a statement stating that updates will be provided through email, GCS social media platforms, and the GCS website.
Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate late on Monday, primarily affecting Georgia. At present, there is no immediate threat of severe storms for Monday night.
Duval County Public Schools has been closely monitoring weather reports and has opted to cancel classes for Tuesday, joining the list of affected school districts. Similarly, Baker County School District has announced the closure of schools, with all transportation services suspended on Tuesday.
The Columbia County School District has changed its plans and decided to cancel classes and after-school activities on Tuesday. The school board meeting originally scheduled for that day will be postponed to January 23, with regular operations set to resume on Wednesday, weather permitting.
In St. Johns County, all schools will be dismissed one hour earlier than usual on Tuesday. Additionally, all after-school activities have been canceled, and the monthly school board meeting has been rescheduled to January 16 at 4 p.m. The weekly Wednesday early release, however, will remain unaffected.
The Union County School District, including the Tigers Den, will also remain closed on Tuesday, with a plan to resume normal activities on Wednesday, January 10. Similarly, Bradford County School District announced closures across the county for Tuesday. Nassau County School District will be closing its schools, with all before and after-school activities being canceled.
The Clay County School District has also decided to join the other counties in canceling classes on Tuesday. However, operations are expected to return to normal on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has advised that the isolated strong-to-severe storms will bring the risk of heavy downpours, tornadoes, and small hail from noon to sunset on Tuesday. Local residents are urged to stay updated on weather developments and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
