The NWS predicts that by Sunday evening, the Northeast and the mid-Atlantic coast will experience heavy wind and excessive rainfall. Furthermore, snow is expected to fall over the northern Appalachians and interior Northeast. Temperatures are also anticipated to drop as a cold front moves across the Midwest and the East Coast.
In addition, certain areas of North Carolina and Virginia are currently under a tornado watch until 8:00 p.m. ET. The NWS has identified a slight risk of "damaging wind gusts" and the possibility of "a few tornadoes" in the eastern Carolinas, southeastern Virginia, northern Florida, and southern Georgia.
Specifically, in the Long Island, New York City, and lower mid-Hudson regions of New York, Governor Kathy Hochul's office has warned of "several" inches of rain and strong winds. These conditions could lead to potential flooding events and power outages. New York City is expected to receive up to 3 inches of rain and may experience 50 mph winds.
Governor Hochul also highlighted the likelihood of heavy, wet snow in the North Country, Mohawk Valley, central New York, Capital District, and upper mid-Hudson regions. This snowfall is projected to impact travel on Monday and could potentially cause power outages in these areas.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy revealed on social media that localized flooding and severe thunderstorms are expected across the state. He also mentioned the possibility of snowfall in the northeastern parts of New Jersey.
Both Governor Hochul and Governor Murphy urged residents to stay updated on the weather conditions through official channels and to plan their activities accordingly. Governor Hochul advised New Yorkers to be prepared, while Governor Murphy emphasized the importance of staying at home and exercising caution if travel is unavoidable.
As the major storm approaches, it is crucial for residents in the affected regions to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
