Huntsville, Alabama - The residents of Huntsville are advised to brace themselves for a potential onslaught of severe weather as strong to severe storms are expected to develop from this afternoon through early Sunday morning. The threat of these storms has prompted a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY notification.

The day will begin with a band of moderate rain showers accompanied by elevated thunderstorms, moving eastward. Following this initial rainfall, the region will experience overcast skies for the remainder of the morning and afternoon, with intermittent periods of light showers and isolated storms throughout the day. The temperature is anticipated to reach the middle to upper 60s under a breezy south wind, which will usher in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.

As the afternoon progresses, the atmosphere is expected to become increasingly unstable, leading to the development of isolated thunderstorm cells as early as 4:00 PM in parts of NW Alabama. Some of these initial cells may become severe. Subsequently, a more extensive line of thunderstorms, bringing a broader concern for strong to severe storms, will follow the initial development and move eastward.

During this time, the primary concerns will be damaging wind gusts, locally heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and the possibility of spin-up tornadoes. It is strongly advised that residents have their severe weather plans in place and stay informed through multiple means of receiving warnings. The line of severe storms is forecasted to progress eastward through the evening, with the severe weather threat diminishing by 2:00 AM for NE Alabama.

Following the passage of the cold front, early Sunday morning is expected to bring lingering light rainfall before colder and drier air rushes in from the northwest. As Sunday progresses, skies will gradually clear, and breezy winds can be anticipated, with temperatures staying in the 40s throughout the day.

On Monday morning, there is a possibility of patchy dense fog and freezing fog, with morning temperatures ranging from the upper 20s to lower 30s, which may result in some isolated icy spots. However, the afternoon will bring sunshine, with high temperatures reaching the upper 40s.

As Huntsville enters a period of potentially severe weather, it is crucial for residents to stay vigilant, stay informed, and take appropriate measures to ensure personal safety and well-being.
