A powerful storm is forecasted to impact the region from Monday night to Tuesday morning, bringing very windy and rainy conditions. The area is under a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather, including the potential for damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes.
The severe weather risk will extend into Monday evening, with the highest chance of severe conditions occurring well after midnight for Northwest Florida. This risk will continue until just after sunrise on Tuesday.
One of the main concerns during this period is the possibility of isolated flash flooding as heavy rain moves in overnight on Monday. The region could experience several inches of rainfall from Monday to Tuesday, increasing the risk of local flooding.
Strong winds will accompany the storm, with speeds ranging from 20 to 40 miles per hour (mph) and gusts as high as 40 to 50 mph. The wind direction will shift from southeast on Monday, to south on Monday night, and finally southwest on Tuesday. These high winds are expected to impact coastal areas, causing rough surf, coastal erosion, and flooding. Boaters are advised to exercise caution, as a Gale Watch is in effect until Tuesday morning.
Following the storm's passage, a cold front will move in on Tuesday morning, clearing out the rain chance. As a result, Wednesday and Thursday will bring cooler and dry weather, with highs in the 50s and 60s, and lows in the 30s and 40s. The next chance of rain is expected on Friday.
Residents are urged to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this severe weather event.
