Search Underway for Two Missing Individuals Swept Away by Flood Waters in Mexico

Mexico, Maine - A frantic search is currently underway for two individuals who were swept away by flood waters on Monday evening. The incident occurred as a vehicle with four people inside was attempting to cross the Red Bridge into Rumford on Rt. 2.
According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, the driver had decided to turn around when the vehicle was suddenly engulfed by the rising flood waters of the Swift River. Three of the occupants managed to escape the vehicle, while two were rescued by emergency responders.
The Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police, and Mexico Police Department have joined forces in search and rescue efforts. Boats are being deployed to reach residents who are trapped and in need of assistance in the flooded areas.
An urgent call has been made to the public to adhere to road closures and to avoid entering flooded roadways, as Mexico and its neighbouring areas are experiencing multiple road closures and partial or complete closure of certain residential areas.
The two individuals who were rescued have been transported to Rumford Hospital for treatment of hypothermia. Their condition remains unknown at this time.
