School Closures Announced in Louisiana Due to Extreme Cold Weather

In anticipation of the upcoming extreme cold weather in Louisiana, several school districts have made the decision to cancel classes on Tuesday, January 16. The freezing conditions along with the potential for winter weather have prompted these closures across the state.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System has declared that all schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 16, to ensure the safety of students and staff. This includes Dalton Elementary School, Lanier Elementary School, and Zion City School (formerly Glen Oaks Middle School), which will also remain closed due to the weather. Additionally, BASIS Baton Rouge - Materra Campus will not hold classes on Tuesday.

McKanstry Preparatory School in Central will also be closed on January 16 due to the potential for winter weather. Slaughter Community Charter School made the decision to close on January 15, designating it as a virtual learning day. Silliman Institute in Clinton will remain closed on January 15 as well.

The Iberville Parish School District has extended their closure, with schools and offices remaining closed on Tuesday, January 16, and Wednesday, January 17. This is due to the expected freezing temperatures and inclement weather conditions. During this time, the school board will implement a modified version of the District's Continuous Learning Plan.

Pointe Coupee Parish School District has also announced the closure of all schools on Tuesday, January 16, due to the severe weather conditions. Likewise, the West Feliciana Parish School District has canceled all classes and virtual school work for Tuesday, January 16.
