After nearly a year on the market without any offers, Savannah Guthrie, the anchor host of "Today," has made the decision to rent out her four-bedroom, four-bathroom Tribeca apartment in downtown Manhattan, as reported by The Post. The move comes as the New York City real estate scene is experiencing a downturn, with high interest rates and a shifting market dynamic favoring renters.
Guthrie, 51, initially listed her lavish apartment for sale in January at a price of $7.1 million. However, faced with a sluggish real estate market, she and her husband, Michael Feldman, opted to put the apartment up for rent in October.
The apartment proved to be an attractive rental opportunity and was recently rented out, although the final rental price remains undisclosed. Initially listed at $30,000 per month, the rental market's conditions may have influenced the final negotiated price.
Guthrie and Feldman purchased the Tribeca apartment in 2017 for approximately $7.11 million, indicating their willingness to accept a potential loss of around $14,000 if the home were sold at the original asking price, in addition to accounting for renovations made over the years.
Interestingly, the Tribeca apartment holds sentimental value for Guthrie and Feldman as it was the first home they purchased together following their wedding in 2014. However, in a strategic decision to embrace a different lifestyle, the couple now split their time between Brooklyn and their upstate New York home located in the picturesque Hudson Valley.
With Savannah Guthrie's downtown Manhattan apartment now on the rental market, her decision reflects the evolving landscape of real estate in New York City, which has seen an increasing number of homeowners opting to rent rather than sell in the current economic climate.
