SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - According to a recent study by real estate research company PropertyShark, five ZIP codes in San Diego County have been identified as some of the most expensive areas in the United States to purchase a home.

The study, which analyzed median sale prices of closed home sales rather than asking prices, unveiled the top 100 most expensive ZIP codes in the nation. At the pinnacle of the list for 2023 is 94027, the ZIP code encompassing Atherton in the Bay Area. With a median sale price of $8.3 million, Atherton saw a 5% increase in prices compared to the previous year.

California dominated the study's findings, as seven out of the top 10 most exclusive ZIP codes in the country originated within the state. Notably, multiple ZIP codes from San Diego County garnered a spot among the prestigious rankings.

Rancho Santa Fe, with its luxurious gated estates and expansive homes, secured the 10th position on the list. Despite experiencing a mere 1% decline, the median sale price in Rancho Santa Fe remained high at $4.24 million in 2023. The community had made its debut in the top 10 last year with a remarkable 26% increase, reaching a median sale price of $4.27 million.

Del Mar, with its picturesque coastal setting, took the 51st spot on the list, boasting a median sale price of $2.36 million. Coronado, widely recognized for its beautiful beaches and iconic Hotel del Coronado, ranked 61st with a median sale price of $2.2 million. Cardiff By The Sea clinched the 86th position, with homes averaging a median sale price of $1.97 million. Lastly, La Jolla, known for its stunning coastline and upscale neighborhoods, secured the 99th spot with a median sale price of $1.83 million.

These prominent San Diego County ZIP codes showcase the region's high-end real estate market and appeal to affluent homebuyers seeking luxury and exclusivity.
