In a recent development, royal biographer Omid Scobie has strongly criticized the claim that Queen Elizabeth II was upset with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for using the name Lilibet for their daughter. Scobie took to Twitter to express his disagreement with the allegations, stating that they do not portray the late Queen Elizabeth II in a favorable light.

Backing up his statement, Scobie shared screenshots from renowned writer Gyles Brandreth's book "Elizabeth," which mentions that the Queen viewed her great-granddaughter's name as a compliment. Scobie highlighted that these claims contradict details previously shared by the Palace during the cooperative writing of a biography in 2022, thus raising doubts about their authenticity.

This controversy arises from a royal aide's claim in journalist Robert Hardman's forthcoming book "Charles III." The aide alleged that the late monarch was visibly angered by Harry and Markle's public statement suggesting that she had approved the use of her childhood nickname, Lilibet, for their daughter.

Notably, neither the Duke and Duchess of Sussex nor Buckingham Palace have made any public responses to the aide's claim. It's important to mention that this claim has surfaced over a year after the Queen's passing.

Previous sources had informed Page Six that Harry had made a phone call to his grandmother after Markle gave birth to Lilibet in 2021 to inform her about their choice of name as a tribute. The couple had announced their daughter's name, Lilibet Diana, shortly after her arrival, explaining that Lili was named after Her Majesty The Queen, who had the nickname Lilibet within the family. They also mentioned that Diana was included as a middle name to honor the late Princess of Wales.

With conflicting accounts emerging, it remains to be seen how this controversy surrounding Princess Lilibet's name will unfold. The public eagerly awaits any further statements or clarifications from the parties involved and Buckingham Palace.

It is worth noting that Queen Elizabeth II was highly regarded and beloved by the public during her reign, and any claims that challenge her character or actions are likely to be met with curiosity and scrutiny by the public. The late Queen's legacy will continue to be revered, while discussions about her role in the lives of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children are bound to provoke debate and speculation.
