In a weather update, meteorologist Chris Higgins has outlined a timeline for the wintry mix that is set to impact St. Louis today. The notable change in temperatures is expected to take place around lunchtime, with a narrow band of mixed precipitation following along with a front moving in.

According to St. Louis radar, current weather conditions can be tracked on a map. Initially, there will be periods of rain in the morning, albeit with less wind intensity. However, as the afternoon progresses, the cold air will arrive, causing a brief transition of rain showers into sleet, freezing drizzle, and snowflakes. The short duration of this precipitation is likely to limit widespread road issues, although there is a possibility of isolated slick spots in some areas.

The timeline for Friday's winter weather is as follows:

- Morning: Expect periods of rain, with winds subsiding.
- Midday to 3 p.m.: Strong winds and falling temperatures. Rain will gradually change to snow from west to east.
- 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Wind gusts of 35-45 mph and wind-blown snow flurries. It is highly likely to experience a flash freeze during this period.
- 8 p.m. to Saturday 6 a.m.: Further increase in wind gusts (40-45 mph) with lingering clouds. Wind chills will drop to 0°.

However, the focal point of the day will be the arrival of bitter cold temperatures and very strong wind gusts, reaching speeds of over 50 mph at times. This could potentially lead to branches falling and a chance of a few power outages in some areas.

As the day progresses, it is advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take precautionary measures to ensure safety.
