PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A group of protesters advocating for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza caused disruptions in Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon. The protesters, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, initially blocked the westbound lanes of I-76 before relocating to block the Spring Garden Street Bridge following several arrests.

The demonstration, aimed at urging an end to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, mirrors similar protests taking place simultaneously in eight other cities across the United States.

Situated in the middle of the bridge, protestors could be seen chanting slogans and holding signs with messages such as "Let Gaza Live" and "Cease Fire Now."

To ensure public safety and monitor the demonstration, a significant police presence was deployed at the site of the protest. As a result of the blockade on I-76 near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, traffic congestion ensued causing delays for commuters.

This is not the first time Jewish Voice for Peace has staged a protest disruptively. On November 2, the organization held a sit-in at 30th Street Station, causing significant delays for both commuters and Amtrak riders.

The group's persistent efforts signify a growing sentiment among individuals who are calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Israel-Hamas conflict. While the protests continue to elicit robust responses, it remains to be seen what impact they will have on the larger issue at hand.
