In a devastating incident, a light aircraft piloted by Robert Sachs, a skilled and respected pilot from New Jersey, crashed into the Caribbean Sea, resulting in the loss of life of all on board, including well-known Hollywood actor Christian Oliver and his two young daughters.

The tragic accident occurred on January 4 when Sachs was flying Christian Oliver and his daughters, 10-year-old Madita Klepser and 13-year-old Annik Klepser, over the neighboring islands of St Vincent and Grenadines. The four-seater Bellanca light aircraft went down into the sea off the private island of Becquia.

Stephen Bath, a British tourist who had the opportunity to fly with Sachs during a vacation to Becquia in November 2021, expressed his sorrow and paid tribute to the experienced pilot. Bath described Sachs as a "charming and experienced" individual, stating that he couldn't imagine the crash being a result of pilot error. He firmly believed that something must have gone wrong with the aircraft at an unfortunate moment. Sachs was known by locals as "Bequia Bob" and was admired for his expertise and commitment to safety.

Megan Smith-Harris, a regular visitor to Bequia and an avid diver, also shared fond memories of Sachs in a Facebook post. She described him as "funny, smart, a super experienced diver, sometimes cranky but always big-hearted." Smith-Harris highlighted Sachs' laugh, his talent for pointing out marine life during dives, and his exceptional navigation skills during challenging weather conditions.

The untimely demise of Sachs, who operated a diving business in addition to offering short flights in Bequia, has left the community in shock. Carlos James, the tourism minister of St. Vincent, expressed his condolences to Sachs' family and acknowledged Sachs as a pioneer in the tourism industry.

Christian Oliver, known for his extensive acting credits, along with his daughters, had just departed from Bequia en route to St. Lucia when the tragic incident occurred. Fishermen and divers in the area of the crash site selflessly rushed to offer assistance while the St. Vincent and Grenadines Coast Guard initiated their response efforts.

Bai Ling, Oliver's co-star, paid tribute to him on social media, while Oliver's wife, Jessica Klepser, and her family issued an emotional statement expressing deep sadness and gratitude for the support received during this unimaginable and painful time.
