In a recent report, it has been revealed that Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, discovered the news of his father's upcoming surgery through an online announcement, just like the rest of the public. Buckingham Palace officially announced on January 17, 2024, that King Charles, aged 75, would be undergoing a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.

Efforts were made to inform all senior members of the Royal family, including Prince Harry, about the monarch's upcoming surgery. However, due to the time difference between London and California, where Harry and his wife Meghan Markle now reside with their two children, it appears that the public announcement may have preceded any private communication with the Duke of Sussex.

This isn't the first time such a breakdown in communication has occurred within the Royal family. Following Queen Elizabeth's death in September 2022, it was reported that Prince Harry was "the last to know" about her passing, finding out only five minutes before the public was informed.

Adding to the surprise, a new report by The Times of London, published on January 18, 2024, reveals that Prince Harry has been excluded from serving as a Counsellor of State during his father's surgery. This position would have allowed him to undertake royal responsibilities on behalf of King Charles. However, it has been discovered that Prince Harry's eligibility was quietly revoked following King Charles' accession to the throne. The Counsellors of State Bill, which became law in December 2022, stipulates that only "working members of the Royal Family" can serve as Counsellors of State.

These recent reports bring the relationship between Prince Harry and King Charles into focus. Despite the apparent communication gaps and stripped opportunities, it was previously revealed that the Duke of Sussex still intends to reconcile with his father in the near future. Royal author Ingrid Seward shared in December 2023 that Harry and Meghan had made a New Year's resolution to mend their relationship with the King.

However, it seems that this reunion will not be happening in time for King Charles' surgery. The Duke of Sussex's availability as a Counsellor of State during this period has been disrupted, leaving a wait-and-see approach to their relationship.

As the public eagerly observes these developments, it remains to be seen how Prince Harry and King Charles will navigate this latest challenge in their father-son relationship.
