In a recent speech at an event in Las Vegas, President Joe Biden sparked controversy after claiming to have met with former French President Francois Mitterrand, who passed away over 30 years ago. Biden shared the anecdote while recounting a meeting he had with current French President Emmanuel Macron during a G7 summit in England.

"I sat down and I said, 'America's back,'" Biden recalled. "And Mitterrand from Germany - I mean from France - looked at me and said... Well, how long are you back for?"

François Mitterrand served as France's president from 1981 to 1995 and passed away in 1996. Biden's mix-up raised eyebrows and led to online criticism from politicians and commentators questioning the president's knowledge and mental state.

Senator Ted Cruz playfully asked, "Was Biden the kid in The Sixth Sense?" referring to the 1999 horror movie. Meanwhile, show host Graham Allen expressed concerns, describing Biden's claim as "not a healthy sign."

The White House later released a version of Biden's speech online, with the name Mitterrand crossed out and corrected to Macron. This correction further fueled speculation about the slip-up and raised questions about the accuracy of Biden's statements.

This incident is not the first time President Biden has faced criticism for making gaffes. In January, during a speech in Wisconsin, he made nearly unintelligible remarks about beer, mumbling phrases like, "The beer brewed here, it is used to make the brew beered here" before expressing gratitude to Earth Rider for the Great Lakes.

As the Democratic primary in Nevada looms, Biden's comments about a potential second Trump presidency were overshadowed by his mistaken claim of a meeting with a deceased French president.

Despite the online mockery and criticism, the Biden campaign has not responded to the recent incident.
