In a recent announcement from the Holy See Press Office, it has been confirmed that Pope Francis will not be attending the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai. The decision to cancel the trip was made on doctor's orders due to the pope's ongoing illness.

According to Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office, while Pope Francis' condition has improved in relation to his flu-like symptoms and respiratory tract inflammation, his doctors have advised against the trip planned for the coming days. It is reported that the Pope's willingness to be part of the discussions remains, and alternative ways for him to contribute will be explored.

Despite the cancellation, the pope's previously scheduled engagements for this week, including his weekly public audience on Wednesday morning, will still take place. The Vatican has not provided any specific details about the pope's other appointments, but it is likely they will proceed as planned.

The Vatican had also shared that Pope Francis had undergone a CT scan on Monday, which ruled out pneumonia but revealed inflammation in his lungs, causing breathing difficulties. The 86-year-old pontiff had sought medical attention after falling ill with the flu on November 25.

Pope Francis was scheduled to depart for Dubai on Friday and deliver an address at the climate conference on Saturday. He was expected to return to Rome on Sunday afternoon. This trip would have marked his 45th foreign visit as the head of the Catholic Church.

While the cancelation is disappointing, the health and wellness of Pope Francis must take priority. The pope's commitment to climate change discussions and his advocacy for environmental stewardship remain unwavering. As the Vatican continues to assess alternative ways for Pope Francis to participate, further updates will be provided in due course.

It is worth noting that the COP 28 conference is a crucial event for global leaders to collaborate and address pressing climate change issues. The absence of Pope Francis serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and well-being while engaging in essential global initiatives.
