The victim has been identified as 66-year-old Carlos Guaman. The incident took place early Thursday morning, and as of now, the cabbie remains on the loose.

According to the NYPD officials, the altercation occurred around 4:30 a.m. when Guaman and his cousin ordered a for-hire vehicle that was not affiliated with Uber, Lyft, or a yellow cab. The disagreement escalated rapidly, resulting in the driver and passengers exiting the cab in front of 1968 W. 9th Street in Bensonhurst.

During the confrontation, the driver allegedly punched both Guaman and his 52-year-old cousin in the head until they lost consciousness. Following the assault, the driver swiftly returned to his vehicle and fled the scene, leaving the victims behind.

Emergency services swiftly arrived on the scene and transported Guaman and his cousin to Maimonides Medical Center for urgent medical attention. Tragically, Guaman was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his cousin remains in critical but stable condition.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the police, who are working to apprehend the driver involved in the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to further understand the circumstances leading up to the fatal altercation.

The authorities have not disclosed any additional information about the suspect or the whereabouts of the vehicle. They are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential risks associated with disputes between drivers and passengers. The NYPD is reminding the public to remain cautious and to contact the authorities if they observe any suspicious behavior or find themselves in a confrontational situation while using for-hire vehicles.

As the investigation proceeds, the community mourns the loss of Carlos Guaman and waits for justice to be served for the senseless act of violence that claimed his life.
