In an attempt to form a unity government in Pakistan, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has reportedly offered the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) three significant constitutional positions. According to sources, the PML-N is seeking the support of the PPP to establish governments at both the central and Punjab levels, as no party secured a simple majority in the February 8 elections.
During a meeting between the leadership of the PPP and the PML-N, discussions were held to finalize the formation of a unity government. Sources revealed that the PML-N proposed the positions of president, speaker of the National Assembly, and Senate chairman to the PPP. Additionally, the PML-N has agreed to give the Balochistan chief minister post to the Bilawal-led party.
Moreover, the PML-N extended an offer of the deputy chief minister position or the role of a senior minister in Punjab to the PPP. These offerings aim to solidify the alliance between the two parties and facilitate the formation of a government.
Speaking on the matter, former Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the decision to ally with a political party to form the central government will ultimately be decided by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the PPP. Both Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto will seek the opinion of the CEC in making this crucial determination.
The negotiations between the PML-N and PPP signify the importance of coalition-building in Pakistani politics, where no single party holds a commanding majority. As political forces come together in the quest for stability and effective governance, the outcome of these deliberations will shape the future of Pakistan's government at both the central and provincial levels.
