PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh residents are advised to prepare for the largest snow event since March 2022, as a significant winter storm is expected to hit the area starting tonight and continuing through tomorrow. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Western Pennsylvania, with higher elevations under a winter storm warning.

Snowfall is predicted to start tonight and intensify during tomorrow morning's commute, posing hazardous travel conditions. As a result, residents are urged to limit their outdoor activities and avoid unnecessary travel until later in the day when conditions are expected to improve. However, snow showers may linger into the afternoon, although they are anticipated to lighten up.

Western Pennsylvania is anticipated to receive snow totals ranging from 4 to 8 inches, according to the advisory, while higher elevations could experience accumulations of 5 to 10 inches. Temperatures will hover around the upper 20s during the day but are expected to drop into the teens by the late evening, contributing to the bitterly cold conditions.

The snowfall is expected to continue into Saturday, with the possibility of additional light accumulations. Temperatures over the weekend will remain frigid, with highs in the teens on Saturday and 20s on Sunday. Morning lows on both days will range from the single digits to the teens, and wind chills could reach negative values.

However, a glimmer of hope awaits as skies are expected to clear up on Sunday, bringing some much-needed sunshine to the region. Furthermore, relief is in store on Monday as above-freezing temperatures make a comeback, with highs in the 30s and mostly cloudy skies. The rise in temperatures will initiate the snow-melting process, providing some respite from the wintry conditions.

Looking ahead, rain is forecasted to return on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, accompanied by highs in the 40s. These milder temperatures and precipitation could further aid in melting the remaining snow.

As Pittsburgh gears up for this significant snowfall, residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather reports and adhere to any official warnings or advisories. By taking necessary precautions and limiting travel, residents can navigate this winter storm as safely as possible.
