PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) - A Wilsonville resident, Christina Dixon, has been found guilty on three charges for using alternative medicine to treat her daughter's liver cancer and for obstructing a scheduled surgery. Dixon's daughter, 13-year-old Kylee Dixon, was declared a ward of the state after the mother failed to bring her in for a medical procedure in June 2019.

The search for the mother and daughter initially led authorities to believe they were along the Oregon Coast. However, on June 13, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office announced their discovery at the Longhorn Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. The child was immediately taken into protective custody.

Supporters of the Dixons gathered in Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square in June to rally for their cause. A family friend, who attended the demonstration, claimed that Christina Dixon's research led her to a naturopathic doctor who prescribed a regimen that reportedly resulted in the shrinking of Kylee's liver tumor to 10% of its original size.

While early clinical trials have been conducted on the potential effects of CBD on cancer treatment, the American Cancer Society cautioned that there is no conclusive evidence to prove its effectiveness in controlling or curing the disease.

Christina Dixon turned herself in to the authorities in August 2019 and was subsequently booked into the Clackamas County Jail. She has now been convicted of first-degree custodial interference and two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment.

Dixon, however, requested a delay in her sentencing in order to find a new attorney for her case. As a result, the sentencing has been rescheduled for December 8.
