Oregon residents are preparing for a significant winter storm that has prompted various warnings and advisories across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for most areas, including Portland, Salem, Corvallis, Eugene, Hood River, Government Camp, Bend, Pendleton, and Burns.
Portland is expected to experience snow and sleet, with accumulations of 3-5 inches and temperatures as low as 0 degrees. A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday.
Salem and Corvallis are under a winter storm warning through 10 p.m. Saturday, with a mix of freezing rain and sleet anticipated. Ice accumulation of up to 0.3 inch and 1-3 inches of sleet accumulation are possible. The high temperature will reach around 24 degrees in Salem and 26 degrees in Corvallis.
Eugene also faces an ice storm warning through 10 p.m. Saturday, with rain and freezing rain expected. Ice accumulation could reach 0.2-0.4 inch, while the high temperature is projected to be around 33 degrees.
In Hood River, a blizzard warning is in effect until midnight, as heavy snowfall and strong winds are anticipated. Accumulations of 3-5 inches are expected, with wind chill values plummeting as low as -11 degrees.
Residents of Government Camp will need to take precautions as a winter storm warning extends until 4 a.m. Sunday. The forecast calls for mostly snow, possibly mixed with sleet in the early afternoon, and snow accumulation of 6-10 inches. High temperatures will hover around 7 degrees, with wind chill values dropping as low as -14 degrees.
Bend and Pendleton are also under a winter storm warning and a wind chill advisory until 4 a.m. Sunday. Both areas are expecting heavy snow, with accumulations of 6-10 inches and highs around 11 degrees.
Burns is facing a winter storm warning until 4 a.m. Sunday, with heavy snowfall expected. A snow accumulation of 7 inches is predicted, and temperatures are set to reach 25 degrees.
On the coastal side, Astoria is under a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. Saturday, with a mix of rain, snow, and sleet expected and a high temperature of 28 degrees. Newport is also under a winter weather advisory, with rain and freezing rain in the forecast and a high temperature of 38 degrees.
Coos Bay is under a winter weather advisory as well, with a flood watch in effect from 1 a.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Monday. A mix of rain and freezing rain is anticipated in the morning, transitioning to rain showers later in the day. High temperatures will range in the low- to mid-50s.
Medford and Ashland will experience rain with highs in the mid-40s.
