Officer Shoots Man in Lynchburg After Attempted Stabbing Incident

Lynchburg, VA - An investigation is currently underway after a Lynchburg Police officer shot a man who was in the midst of stabbing a woman in the 5100 block of Boonsboro Road. The incident occurred on Friday, November 10 at approximately 6:53 a.m.

According to authorities, the officer responded to a report about a man actively stabbing a woman at the scene. As the officer arrived, they witnessed the man continuing his assault despite verbal commands to stop. In response, the officer discharged their department-issued weapon, striking the man.

Police immediately provided medical assistance to both the injured woman, identified as 42-year-old Nicole Rosser, and the suspect. Both individuals were quickly transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment. Tragically, Rosser succumbed to her injuries while the man remains in critical condition and under hospital care.

During the incident, there were additional individuals present, namely another woman and a 16-year-old boy, who sustained minor injuries. Both were promptly treated and subsequently discharged. Authorities are currently investigating the extent of their involvement in the incident.

As per standard protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on non-enforcement, limited-duty assignment until the conclusion of the investigation. Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) clarified that this practice is routine for such cases.

The LPD has reported that the Virginia State Police will be overseeing the investigation into the incident, while LPD conducts an internal review. At this time, authorities assert that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no immediate threat to the public.
