Winter Storm Looms over Northeast US, Bringing Snow and Coastal Flooding
As the Northeastern United States braces for a powerful winter storm, multiple states are under winter weather warnings, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). This anticipated storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and coastal flooding to the region.
The NWS forecasts that parts of New Jersey and Connecticut could experience up to a foot of snow, while New York City may see up to eight inches before Wednesday. In addition to the snow, there is a chance of thundersnow, where lightning forms within a snowstorm, according to NWS Meteorologist Bryan Ramsey.
Coastal areas of New York have also been warned of potential flooding on Tuesday morning through mid-day. Residents are urged to avoid travel and prepare for significant delays at airports as the storm rolls in.
This winter storm arrives just a little over a month after the first winter storm of 2024 hit the region, ending a two-year-long snowless streak for several cities, including New York City and Philadelphia. During last month's Storm Indigo, hundreds of thousands of homes lost power, airports experienced travel chaos, and several individuals lost their lives.
As the details about this new storm continue to unfold, forecasters will closely monitor the situation and provide updates to the impacted areas. It is crucial for residents to stay informed, take necessary precautions, and heed the advice of local authorities to ensure their safety during this inclement weather.
