According to a recent poll released by Suffolk University, the Boston Globe, and NBC10, former President Trump maintains a significant lead in the Republican presidential primary race in New Hampshire, with 50% of likely voters supporting him. However, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is gaining ground, standing at 36% and closing the gap on Trump's lead, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis lags behind at 6%.
The poll, conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, follows Trump's dominating victory in the Iowa caucuses. In Iowa, Trump secured a commanding 51% of the vote, leaving DeSantis with 21% and Haley with 19%. Nevertheless, New Hampshire presents a different electorate, where moderate voters hold considerable influence, and independents can vote in either major party primary.
The new poll shows that 85% of New Hampshire voters have already made up their minds and are unlikely to change their choice. It reveals that Trump maintains a substantial lead over Haley among self-described conservatives, while Haley leads by double digits among those who identify as moderate or liberal.
In an interview with Fox Digital in Rochester, New Hampshire, Haley emphasized her focus on Trump. She stated, "Trump is the one I want. Trump is the one I'm going for." Looking at the close race between herself and Trump in New Hampshire and South Carolina, Haley expressed her goal of making it even closer, asserting, "So it's Trump we're going after."
While Haley is gaining traction in New Hampshire, current polling in South Carolina, where the first southern primary will be held on February 24th, shows Trump with a significant double-digit lead over Haley and DeSantis trailing in the single digits.
DeSantis, speaking to voters in Hampton, New Hampshire, highlighted his second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, contrasting it with Haley's third-place finish. However, Haley pointed out her significant rise in Iowa, starting at 2% and ending at 20%. She declared, "We're going to continue to go further. We're way above 30% here."
With the support of New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who endorsed her last month, Haley still believes she can win Tuesday's primary. Sununu, her top surrogate and advisor in the Granite State, stated, "She has already exceeded expectations in terms of a one-on-one race with Trump."
As the New Hampshire primary fast approaches, the race remains dynamic, with Haley's surge challenging Trump's dominance and DeSantis struggling to gain momentum. The outcome in the Granite State will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the trajectory of the Republican presidential primary.
