Results from a recent poll conducted by the Saint Anselm College Survey Center indicate that former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is making significant strides in the first-in-the-nation Republican primary. The poll, which surveyed over 1,700 likely New Hampshire voters on Sunday and Monday, shows Republican front-runner Donald Trump leading with 44% support, followed closely by Haley at 30%, a 14-point gap.
Of particular note is the doubling of support for Haley since the previous poll, while Trump's numbers have remained steady. It is worth mentioning that this survey was conducted shortly after Governor Chris Sununu endorsed Haley, adding a significant boost to her campaign.
The gap between Trump and Haley is substantial compared to the rest of the Republican contenders. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie trails at 12%, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 6%, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at 5%.
Neil Levesque, from the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, underscores the momentum Haley has gained. He stated, "She's definitely moving up and moving up quickly, and she has enough time to catch up, at this point. This is the really significant finding here that if anyone is on the move, it's Nikki Haley."
The poll also covered the Democratic primary, revealing President Joe Biden leading with 50% support. However, it is important to note that Biden will appear on the ballot through a write-in campaign. Congressman Dean Phillips follows at 10%, while Marianne Williamson lags behind at 7%.
With the rate of increase in support for Nikki Haley, it is plausible to anticipate that she will continue to gain on Donald Trump in the next 34 days leading up to the primary elections. This development hints at a more dynamically evolving Republican primary after several months of relative stagnation.
While polling results are only a snapshot in time and come with a margin of error, these latest findings suggest a potential shift in the Republican primary landscape, making it imperative for all candidates to keep a close eye on Haley's trajectory as the race progresses.
