Craig Ross Jr., a 46-year-old New York man, appeared in Saratoga County Court on Friday to face nine counts of charges, including rape and kidnapping, in connection with the abduction of a nine-year-old girl.

The court unsealed the indictment as Ross pleaded not guilty to the charges. Initially arrested on kidnapping charges, he now faces additional charges of first-degree rape and predatory sex assault against a child, among others.

According to authorities, Ross was apprehended last month after a state trooper witnessed him placing a ransom note, which bore his fingerprints, in the victim's family mailbox. His identity was confirmed through a DUI arrest record from 1999, ultimately leading investigators to a camper located on his mother's property.

During a news briefing, New York Governor Kathy Hochul revealed that tactical teams discovered the suspect hiding inside the camper. After a brief confrontation, Ross was taken into custody, and the young girl was found alive inside a cabinet, where she had been concealed.

Ross's mother declined to comment when approached by reporters and has not returned any calls.

At the arraignment, Judge James Murphy ordered that Ross be held without bail and scheduled his next court hearing for December 21.

Records show that Ross had previous encounters with the law, including a domestic violence charge. However, there were no prior records of sex-related crimes in his history, according to state police.

Ross's own son spoke to Fox News Digital, expressing his abhorrence towards his father and hoping for his imprisonment. He claimed to be unaware of any warning signs leading up to these heinous allegations.
