Howard, Wisconsin - The Howard Animal Control and Humane Officer, Matt Atkinson, has given an update on the recent discovery of dead birds at the Duck Creek Quarry. As of December 15th, a total of 26 dead birds have been found, and authorities are currently awaiting the results of the lab tests. In the meantime, the quarry trails will remain closed until the cause of the deaths is determined.

To address the situation promptly, animal control has been conducting multiple daily checks for dead geese. Any dead birds that are discovered are immediately removed. Additionally, in an effort to deter geese flocks from gathering near the quarry, coyote decoys have been deployed, resulting in a decrease in the number of geese and a reduction in the number of sick or deceased geese.

To aid in the investigation, Atkinson urges the public to report any sightings of dead waterfowl or birds of prey to animal control, regardless of the quantity. Residents can contact animal control at 920-530-1044 to request pick-up of the deceased birds, or they can double-bag the birds and dispose of them with regular trash collection.

As the investigation continues, officials are anxious to determine the cause behind the significant number of bird deaths. Until further notice, individuals are advised to avoid the trails surrounding Duck Creek Quarry for safety reasons. Updates will be provided once the lab results are available.

Atkinson urges anyone with questions or concerns to reach out to the animal control team at the provided phone number. The community is encouraged to stay vigilant and assist in this ongoing investigation to ensure the well-being of local wildlife.
