Hailey Clifton-Carmack, a former teacher at Laquey High School in Pulaski County, now faces multiple felony charges related to the case.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Clifton-Carmack is accused of having sexual contact with a 16-year-old student at the school between November 1 and December 23 of the previous year. The allegations came to light after a confidential witness reported seeing photographs of the victim's back, which had scratches purportedly resulting from the sexual encounters with Clifton-Carmack. The witness also claimed to have overheard a phone conversation between the teacher and the student, further raising suspicions.
Law enforcement authorities executed a search warrant for Clifton-Carmack's phone on December 8. Although she initially denied any relationship with students outside of school, investigators state that she did not provide access to her phone, refusing to provide the passcode during the search. Soon after, on December 22, an officer received an email containing a PDF file allegedly showcasing conversations between Clifton-Carmack and the victim discussing their relationship.
Following the discovery of the incriminating conversations, police received an anonymous tip that Clifton-Carmack was planning to flee to Texas. The authorities swiftly acted on this information, apprehending the teacher on December 23 in Garden Ridge, a small town located approximately 30 minutes north of San Antonio.
Prosecutors have charged Clifton-Carmack with four felonies, including sexual contact with a student, second-degree statutory rape, fourth-degree child molestation, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The accused teacher is currently awaiting legal proceedings related to her case.
This disturbing incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety and welfare of students within educational institutions. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if any other students were involved or if there was any negligence on behalf of the school.
