DEDHAM, Mass. - Massachusetts is preparing for another round of snowfall this week, following the recent snow squalls that hit the state. With frigid temperatures settling in, the Boston 25 Weather team has issued a Weather Alert as more snow is expected in the coming days.
According to meteorologist Shiri Spear, the first round of light snow is predicted to occur overnight Monday into Tuesday, with most parts of Massachusetts expected to receive up to 4 inches of snow. Spear advises residents to have their snow brushes ready as they may be needed to clear their cars. Slippery travel conditions are anticipated, and accumulation will be possible as the snow moves in around midnight in the Boston area.
Temperatures on Tuesday morning are expected to be in the 20s, accompanied by light accumulation of snow. There is also a possibility of sleet and freezing rain, especially along the coast, as the snow transitions into rainfall. The north and west regions of Boston can anticipate approximately 2-4 inches of snow, while southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod are likely to see 1-2 inches. Nantucket may experience a coating of snow.
Fortunately, wind and coastal flooding will not be a concern during this winter weather event.
Meteorologist Vicki Graf shared futurecast maps indicating that the snowfall is projected to linger throughout Tuesday morning and afternoon, gradually tapering off by 7 p.m. There may be intermittent lulls and a mix closer to the coast. Travel conditions are expected to be slippery throughout the day.
Beyond this upcoming snow event, another storm is anticipated to approach the coast on Friday. However, it remains too early to predict potential snowfall totals for that system. Meteorologist Shiri Spear advises focusing on the immediate concern and keeping Friday's storm "on your radar".
As Massachusetts prepares for the approaching snowfall on Tuesday, residents are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and exercise caution while traveling. Additionally, it is recommended to take necessary measures to ensure safety, such as clearing sidewalks and driveways, and allowing extra time for commuting.
