In a shocking and disturbing development, 48-year-old Jeremy Albert Best made his initial appearance in court via Zoom on Monday, accused of the brutal murder of his wife, Kali Randall, and their unborn child. Best's shirtless presence during the virtual proceedings only added to the already haunting nature of the case.

Best is facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the tragic deaths of his wife and her unborn baby. The grisly incident took place at the couple's residence located at 4600 Skyline Loop in Victor, Teton County.

According to court documents, the horrifying events unfolded on Thursday night when a deputy from the Teton County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the residence following a 911 hang-up call. The call, which had background sounds of yelling and then silence, featured a woman repeatedly saying "Jeremy" and "Jeremy no," while a male voice responded with a menacing "yes" and threatened violence.

Upon arrival at the scene, the deputy encountered a neighbor who reported hearing a heated argument between Kali and Jeremy, with Kali pleading for him to stop because of their baby. The neighbor then heard what sounded like gunshots shortly after, following which he saw a black car, later identified as Best's 1995 black Chevy Tahoe with Idaho license plate #1T39349, fleeing the scene.

Inside the residence, authorities discovered Kali Randall's lifeless body under the lean-to of the north shop. She had multiple gunshot wounds on her right breast and right side, which proved to be fatal. Tragically, an examination later confirmed that Kali was 28 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The investigation also revealed that Best had kidnapped his 10-month-old baby, Zeke Best, who was found dead hours later near the location of Best's arrest in Bonneville County. The death of baby Zeke is being treated as an intentional homicide, with authorities conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Depending on where Zeke was killed, Best could face additional charges in the respective jurisdiction.

During the Zoom appearance, Best questioned the charges and even disputed the appointment of his defense attorney, claiming that Jim Archibald was "not his attorney." The defense requested a mental competency evaluation for Best, a request that the prosecution did not oppose. As a result, the court ordered the evaluation to take place.

The magnitude of this tragedy has deeply impacted the community, with Teton County Prosecutor Bailey Smith describing it as one of the most horrific crimes in recent history. As the legal process unfolds, all parties involved are focused on achieving justice for the deaths of Kali Randall and Baby Zeke.

Jeremy Best is currently being held without bond and is slated to appear in court again on December 18th for a preliminary hearing. The hearing format, whether in-person or over Zoom, is yet to be determined.

The details of this case continue to send shockwaves through the community, as investigators work tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding these heinous acts. The loss of two innocent lives has left an indelible mark, and the pursuit of justice for Kali Randall and her unborn child remains at the forefront of this tragic saga.
