Newry, Maine - Sunday River ski resort, one of the popular winter destinations in the area, has been forced to close its doors on Tuesday after heavy rain caused severe flooding. The road leading up to the mountain was completely washed out during Monday's storm, prompting the closure for assessment and repair operations.

In a statement released by Sunday River, they assured ski enthusiasts that they are working diligently to reopen ski operations as swiftly as possible. The resort's snowmaking activities will resume once the necessary repairs are completed. Recognizing the patience and understanding of their visitors, Sunday River has promised to provide regular updates on the progress through their daily Mountain Report.

The torrential rain not only impacted Maine but also caused significant issues in neighboring New Hampshire. Loon Mountain ski resort, along with Attitash, Cranmore, and Wildcat Mountain, will remain closed on Tuesday to address draining and trail preparations for skiing. The aftermath of the storm has left these resorts with challenging conditions that need to be resolved before they can safely welcome visitors again.

Disturbing footage emerged from Gorham, New Hampshire, where a truck was captured floating down the flooded Moose Brook River. The sheer force of the raging waters in Jackson Falls' Wildcat River, caused by both heavy rain and snowmelt, created a turbulent scene. Numerous rivers in the region experienced their highest recorded crests during this storm event, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

As ski resorts in both Maine and New Hampshire work tirelessly to restore normality, affected visitors are encouraged to stay updated with resort announcements and local authorities' instructions. The safety and well-being of everyone involved remain the highest priority as these popular winter destinations recover from the impact of unprecedented flooding.

Stay tuned for further updates on the status of Sunday River ski resort and other affected areas in New Hampshire as the cleanup and recovery efforts continue.
