Lower Michigan is bracing for its first widespread snowfall of the season, as a system is expected to move through the region on Sunday and Sunday night. While the southeast half of the state may only see a light dusting, the northwest half is predicted to receive the first significant snowfall of the season.

According to the radar forecast from midnight tonight to 8 p.m. Sunday, snowflakes are anticipated across the entirety of Lower Michigan. The snow is set to commence overnight in northwest Lower Michigan, with areas such as Ludington, Cadillac, and Traverse City experiencing light snowfall. Throughout Sunday morning, the snow is expected to spread southeastward, reaching Grand Rapids, Lansing, and the Saginaw area. By early Sunday afternoon, the snow will have made its way into far southeast Michigan, including Ann Arbor and Detroit.

For the southeast half of Lower Michigan, the snowfall is projected to be light, with accumulation totaling around an inch by Sunday evening. However, this amount is considered to be relatively minor by Michigan standards. In contrast, residents of the northwest half can anticipate a more substantial snowfall, ranging from two to four inches by Sunday night.

Road conditions are likely to be impacted by the snow, as temperatures are expected to be cold enough for the precipitation to stick to the surface. While the snowfall may not be significant for most, it will mark the onset of potentially slick driving conditions for the first time this season.

As Michigan residents prepare for the winter weather, it is advised to exercise caution on the roads and allow for extra travel time. Stay tuned for further updates and ensure necessary precautions are taken to stay safe during this initial snowfall of the season.
