LONDON - King Charles III, in his second Christmas speech since ascending the throne, emphasized the message of public service and environmental consciousness. In a prerecorded video filmed at Buckingham Palace, with a Christmas tree adorned with natural decorations by his side, the king connected the holiday season to the health of the planet and ongoing conflicts.

The video showcased highlights from the past year of King Charles' reign, including his first state visit to Kenya alongside Queen Camilla, where he personally planted a tree. It also featured footage from his coronation, where he proclaimed his commitment to service.

Referring to the message of Jesus' life, King Charles paid tribute to the "selfless army" that forms the "backbone of our society" by extending a helping hand to those in need. He honored the importance of serving others and supporting those less fortunate.

Promoting sustainability, the king's Christmas tree was adorned with natural ornaments made of wood, dried oranges, pinecones, and paper. It marked the first live tree at Buckingham Palace, and plans were made to replant it after the holidays.

Notably absent from the video was King Charles' estranged son, Prince Harry, who moved to the United States with his wife, Meghan, in 2020. Prince Harry, who was seated in the third row at the coronation ceremony, released a best-selling memoir earlier in the year, titled "Spare," which accused his brother, Prince William, of assaulting him.

King Charles' Christmas message emphasized the importance of public service and environmental responsibility, aligning with his ongoing mission to make a positive impact during his reign. As he marks his first Christmas as the officially crowned monarch, his commitment to serving others remains at the forefront of his agenda.
