Bayer has announced that a jury in California has reached a verdict in favor of Monsanto in a Roundup product liability trial. The verdict was delivered on Friday in the Superior Court of California, San Benito County, before Judge Patrick Palacios.

In a statement released by Bayer, the company expressed satisfaction with the jury's decision, stating, "The jury's verdict in favor of the company brings this trial to a successful conclusion and is consistent with the evidence in this case that Roundup does not cause cancer and is not responsible for the plaintiff's illness." The statement also highlighted Bayer's strong record at trial, winning ten out of the last fifteen cases, and the validation of its trial-based strategy relying on scientific evidence and global regulatory support for the safety of their products.

This court victory comes after Bayer faced notable losses in the Roundup Litigation recently. In a previous trial, a Missouri jury ordered the company to pay $1.56 billion to four plaintiffs who claimed that prolonged use of Roundup caused their non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Additionally, a California jury had ordered a Monsanto unit to pay $332 million to a plaintiff who attributed his cancer to the use of Roundup. Furthermore, just this week, a Washington jury demanded that Bayer's Monsanto pay $857 million to former students and parent volunteers who blamed illnesses on exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) leaked from light fixtures at a school northeast of Seattle.

Throughout these legal battles, Bayer has consistently maintained that Roundup, including its main ingredient glyphosate, is safe. The company has cited multiple regulators, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to support its claims.

This court victory in California represents a significant development for Bayer as it signals a departure from recent losses in the Roundup Litigation. With this favorable verdict, the company strengthens its defense of Roundup and its commitment to ensuring the safety of its products. The outcome of this trial serves as a reminder of the complex and contentious nature of product liability cases and the importance of evidence-based arguments in legal proceedings.
