After seven days of riveting testimony, the trial for Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of the Oxford High School shooter, has reached its conclusion. Now, the fate of Jennifer and her husband, James Crumbley, rests in the hands of the jury.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors presented a total of 21 witnesses, while the defense called only one witness, Jennifer Crumbley herself. Both sides presented their closing arguments on Friday, leaving the jury with the task of deliberating the charges. However, the jury has been instructed not to discuss or read about the case over the weekend. Deliberations are scheduled to commence on Monday, February 5th.

The Crumbleys are facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the tragic mass shooting that occurred at Oxford High School on November 30, 2021. The charges stem from the heartbreaking deaths of 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 16-year-old Tate Myre, 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin, and 17-year-old Justin Shilling.

During the trial, a key witness, Luke Kirtley, owner of Coffehaus in Detroit, took the stand and testified about spotting the Crumbleys' vehicle in a parking lot, leading to their arrest. Kirtley's 911 call revealed that Jennifer Crumbley was found sitting on the ground beside the car.

Another significant development was the admission of privileged texts between Jennifer Crumbley and her attorney into evidence. Prosecutors argued that Jennifer waived her attorney-client privilege while testifying about her arrest and alleged attempt to flee the charges. These texts raised questions about the timeline of events and led to a debate in court regarding the defendant's credibility.

In a tense exchange during the trial, defense attorney Shannon Smith raised questions about Jennifer Crumbley's extramarital affair with a high school friend, Brian Meloche. While Judge Cheryl Matthews had initially ruled the affair inadmissible, a line of questioning from Smith changed the ruling. It was suggested that Meloche's statements to the police changed over time due to alleged intimidation tactics by law enforcement.

Throughout her testimony, Jennifer Crumbley provided insight into her relationship with her son, including photos from her Facebook page that showcased the family's activities and interests. She defended her son's text messages about ghosts and hallucinations, describing them as jokes and not a cause for concern. However, prosecutors argued that these messages indicated negligence on Jennifer's part in seeking professional help for her son.

On Monday, a school counselor, Shawn Hopkins, testified about a meeting involving the shooter, his parents, and himself on the day of the shooting. The meeting was called due to concerns about the shooter's wellbeing. Hopkins' testimony shed light on the events leading up to the tragic incident.

As deliberations are set to begin on Monday, the jury will carefully review the evidence presented and determine the fate of the Crumbleys. The decision will mark a significant turning point in this heart-wrenching case that has gripped the nation.
