Dutch national Joran van der Sloot, infamous for the killings of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in 2005 and Peruvian business student Stephany Flores in 2010, will be sent back to Peru to complete his sentences for both murders. After years of remaining silent about Holloway's disappearance, van der Sloot finally admitted this month that he had crushed her skull with a cinder block in a confession that became public during a recent hearing.

The Peruvian government had agreed to extradite van der Sloot in 2014, but only once his sentence in the United States was completed. However, a new deal was reached earlier this year, which sent him to Alabama, where he pleaded guilty to extortion and wire fraud charges related to misleading Holloway's mother about her daughter's location.

Under the terms of the plea deal, van der Sloot will return to Peru to serve his sentences concurrently. Upon completion of his Peruvian sentence, he will then remain in a Peruvian prison for an additional five years to serve his U.S. sentence. It is reported that van der Sloot despises the Challapalca prison in Peru, which his lawyer describes as "hell."

While some legal experts have criticized the plea deal for being too lenient, others argue that securing a conviction and a longer sentence through a trial would have been challenging. The confession provides closure to the Holloway family, who had been waiting for answers for 18 years.

Experts remain skeptical about van der Sloot's credibility, considering his history of lying about the events surrounding Holloway's disappearance. He had previously made conflicting claims, including that she hit her head on a rock, his father helped him hide her body, and that he had sold her to human traffickers.

Despite the admission of killing Holloway, the terms of the plea deal state that van der Sloot's confession cannot be used to pursue murder charges. Suspicion still remains about the full extent of the cover-up surrounding Holloway's death, as experts question van der Sloot's claim that he dragged her body into shallow water.

In a federal courtroom in Alabama, Judge Anna Manasco described the extortion and fraud charges against van der Sloot as "heinous." The judge referred to the killer's separate instances of murdering two women who rejected his sexual advances. However, the terms of the plea deal confirm that his confession will not be used to seek murder charges in Holloway's case.

With van der Sloot's confession, Holloway's family finally feels a sense of closure, just days before what would have been her 37th birthday. After 18 years, the case of Natalee Holloway has been solved, with her mother affirming that van der Sloot is indeed the killer.

The extradition and plea deal highlight the complex nature of justice in cases like these, with some questioning whether it truly delivers justice in all its forms. Van der Sloot is expected to serve a total of 46 years for both the murder of Stephany Flores and the extortion of Holloway's parents.

The story of Joran van der Sloot serves as a grim reminder of the pain and suffering inflicted by his callous acts.
