Renowned comedian and former "Tonight Show" host, Jay Leno, has filed a petition with the Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking a conservatorship over his wife Mavis Leno's estate. The petition, obtained by CNN, states that Jay Leno aims to establish the conservatorship to execute Mavis Leno's estate plan on her behalf, as she is currently suffering from dementia.

In the filing, Jay Leno requests to be appointed conservator specifically for the purpose of filing a petition for substituted judgment, in order to ensure that Mavis Leno's wishes regarding the distribution of her assets after her passing are honored. The couple, who have been married for over 43 years, have entrusted Jay with managing their finances throughout their marriage, according to the document.

The 73-year-old comedian expresses his belief in the filing that Mavis would execute an estate plan if she had the capacity to do so. By seeking conservatorship, Jay Leno hopes to fulfill her desires in regards to the disposition of her estate upon her death.

CNN reached out to a representative for Jay Leno for further comment on the matter. However, no response from the representative has been obtained at the time of writing.

Dementia is a degenerative condition that affects cognitive abilities, memory, and judgment. With this petition, Jay Leno aims to navigate the legal process and ensure that his wife's estate plan is executed as envisioned, despite her current health challenges.

As the legal proceedings continue, the outcome of Jay Leno's petition for conservatorship will determine his ability to make decisions on behalf of his wife and manage her estate in line with her wishes.
