Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a visit to Gaza on Monday to meet with his country's forces, reiterating his commitment to pursue the offensive despite increasing international pressure for a cease-fire.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Netanyahu's account stated, "With our heroic fighters in Gaza - fighting until victory!" Accompanied by a video, the footage showed Netanyahu disembarking from a helicopter and being escorted through the devastated streets, with Israeli soldiers flanking him on both sides.
Earlier, in an address to his political party, Netanyahu underscored that the war would not come to a halt any time soon. "We are expanding the fight in the coming days, and this will be a long battle and it isn't close to finished," Netanyahu declared, as reported by the Associated Press.
Similar sentiments were conveyed by Netanyahu during a speech in Israel's parliament, where families of over 100 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza held signs demanding immediate action to secure their release. Chants of "Now! Now!" echoed from the gallery, according to the AP.
As the conflict persists, the United Nations Security Council approved a measure last week aimed at increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza, where thousands of people have lost their lives due to Israel's bombing campaign. The Israeli offensive was launched in response to the October 7 attack by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and took hundreds more hostage in Gaza.
Notably, the United States abstained from the final vote on the Security Council resolution, signaling its desire to exert pressure on Israel concerning its handling of the war. This stance has led to divisions within the Democratic Party domestically and sparked criticism from the international community.
Netanyahu's visit to Gaza marks his second trip to the region since the conflict began, according to The New York Times.
As the conflict between Israel and Hamas shows no signs of abating, the international community continues to call for an end to the violence and a renewed focus on diplomatic negotiations to achieve a lasting peace.
