In a surprising move, Israel's newly developed Eitan Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) has been deployed in combat against Hamas militants in Gaza, months before its scheduled operational date. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the high-tech APC has already embarked on its first combat missions.

The Eitan APC, capable of carrying 12 soldiers, including three crew members, is equipped with Israel's latest defense technology. Its development was intended to replace the aging M113 APCs currently in service with Israeli forces, providing enhanced mobility and firepower across various terrains.

On November 5, a photograph released by the IDF showcased the distinctively designed Eitan APC actively participating in operations in the besieged Gaza Strip. Insider magazine reported that an IDF spokesperson confirmed the presence of these armored vehicles on the ground.

The Eitan APC received its baptism by fire during the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas, during which they quickly proved their effectiveness. During the Battle of Zikim, where Hamas soldiers overran an IDF training base, the Eitan APC played a vital role in neutralizing the threat.

Rapid response and mobility were identified as key advantages, as Israeli soldiers using the Eitan's machine guns engaged the terrorists alongside tanks, swiftly reaching areas in need of reinforcement. Additionally, the Eitan APC proved itself valuable in breaking through gates and fences, assisting with the evacuation of wounded troops, and supplying ground forces.

Israel's Eitan APC, weighing between 30 and 35 tons, boasts a modular design, providing accommodation for a crew of three and nine soldiers. Featuring a V-shaped hull for enhanced protection against mines and IEDs, it is further fortified by the Iron Fist active protection system.

Armed with a 30mm turret, a remote weapon station furnished with a heavy machine gun, and a pintle-mounted machine gun, the Eitan APC boasts impressive firepower. It can reach speeds exceeding 56 mph, ensuring speedy response and maneuverability on the battlefield.

Brig. Gen. Guy Paglin, former head of Israel's Defense Ministry's Armored Vehicles Directorate, highlighted the significance of continuously upgrading defense equipment. He emphasized the importance of providing soldiers with the best and most advanced technologies to combat various threats effectively.

Israel's ground invasion of Gaza and the intense aerial bombardment campaign have been ongoing since the October 7 Hamas terror attacks. The death toll has risen to more than 11,000 people, including over 4,000 children, according to the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The premature deployment of the Eitan APC presents a significant shift in strategy for Israel as it grapples with the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Israeli forces now have an advanced weapon at their disposal, one that promises improved mobility, protection, and lethality on the battlefield.
