In a major turn of events, the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has reached a crucial point, with a pause that could potentially transform into a lasting truce. However, if this ceasefire becomes durable, it would signify a decisive defeat for Israel, as stated by leaders and President Biden.

The current situation on the ground involves the seizure and removal of innocent Israeli civilians, including children, women, and elderly individuals, who have been held hostage. The gradual return of these hostages has been linked to the release of a significant number of legitimately convicted Palestinian terrorists. This imbalance raises concerns about Israel's position and its ability to protect its citizens.

The atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7, after breaching an agreed ceasefire, were of horrifying proportions. This event provided Israel with an opportunity to take decisive action and fulfill its promise to completely dismantle Hamas as a military force. The scale of the attacks has spurred a national unity government, formed instantly in response, to take a strong stance against terrorism.

While Iran and Hezbollah have stated that they will not intervene on a significant scale in this conflict, other Arab powers, despite their customary support for the Palestinian cause, share a detestation for terrorism similar to that of Israel. The history of terrorist acts committed by extremist groups within Arab nations, such as the assassinations of Egypt's President Sadat and Jordan's King Abdullah's grandfather, has created a common ground of opposition to such violence.

The Palestinian cause, often used as a rallying cry against Israel, has lost some of its appeal as Arab powers have shifted their focus from promoting the narrative of an illicit Jewish occupation to countering the encroaching threats of Turkey and Iran. These changes in the geopolitical landscape have prompted a reassessment of the Arab nations' relationship with Israel.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, there seems to be uncertainty about the stance of the Biden administration. While it appears to strongly encourage a pause in the hostilities, the exact nature of its communication with the Israeli government remains unclear. Nevertheless, there is solid bipartisan support in Congress for providing significant military aid to Israel, reflecting the stance of the American public.

However, the Biden administration faces challenges due to the events of 2020, where the Democratic Party's attempts to defeat former President Trump inadvertently aligned itself with anti-American and antisemitic sentiments. This has caused division within the party and poses difficulties in effectively addressing the desires of the bipartisan majority that supports Israel, while also engaging with progressive factions on the left.

Looking ahead, it is crucial for Israel to seize this opportunity to eradicate Hamas as a military and terrorist force. The strategic realities and moral imperatives of the contemporary Middle East demand decisive action. The unconditional support of the United States is essential for Israel to fulfill its promise, without being swayed by internal political dynamics.

The current crisis in Gaza has brought to the surface the complex challenges faced by both Israel and the Democratic Party. While the immediate focus lies on resolving the conflict, the future political landscape and potential ramifications remain uncertain. The tides may shift, and it remains to be seen how Israel's path forward will be shaped by both domestic and international factors.
