In recently unearthed audio clips, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his support for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' call to revisit landmark rulings on contraception and same-sex marriage. The audio clips, discovered by CNN's KFILE, shed light on Johnson's perspective on these issues.

During a podcast interview with right-wing commentator Todd Starnes on June 24, 2022, the same day the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, Johnson discussed Thomas' suggestion. He stated that what Thomas was "calling for is not radical." Johnson, who is an outspoken conservative, now holds the position of Speaker of the House.

The Supreme Court's 6-3 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade marked a historic and far-reaching ruling that significantly limited abortion rights in nearly half of all US states. Justice Thomas, along with the other conservative justices, joined in the decision. In his concurring opinion, Thomas went further, suggesting that the court "should reconsider" its rulings in three landmark cases: Griswold v. Connecticut, Lawrence v. Texas, and Obergefell v. Hodges.

Griswold v. Connecticut established the right to contraception, Lawrence v. Texas legalized same-sex sexual activity, and Obergefell v. Hodges legalized same-sex marriage. Thomas argued that these precedents created an error in jurisprudence that needs to be corrected.

During his appearance on Todd Starnes' show on the day Thomas released his opinion, Johnson criticized the state of the country's jurisprudence, stating that "there's been some really bad law made" in the past several decades. He suggested that some of these rulings needed to be "cleaned up."

In another unearthed audio clip from May 2022, Johnson described abortion as "an American holocaust." He specifically mentioned Planned Parenthood and other large abortion providers, indicating that they set up their clinics in inner cities and view the residents as "easy prey."

These revelations highlight Johnson's commitment to conservative ideologies and position him as a staunch opponent of abortion rights. As Speaker of the House, Johnson's views on these issues will likely play a significant role in shaping the national discourse surrounding reproductive rights and same-sex marriage.

It remains to be seen how Johnson's support for revisiting landmark rulings on contraception and same-sex marriage will impact the political landscape and potentially influence future legal decisions.
