The Harrisburg area is preparing for potentially hazardous weather conditions as a storm approaches, prompting a flood watch and a wind advisory. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), residents in Dauphin, Lebanon, and Lancaster counties should be on high alert as winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 mph to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 55 mph.
The wind advisory will take effect at noon and remain in place until 2 a.m. Wednesday. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to secure any loose objects that may be vulnerable to strong winds.
Furthermore, a flood watch will begin at 1 p.m. and continue through Wednesday afternoon, encompassing Dauphin, Perry, Cumberland, Adams, and York counties, as well as other areas of the state. The combination of up to 3 inches of rainfall and melting snow from the previous weekend's storm heightens the risk of flooding.
The day will begin with a chance of snow before 9 a.m., followed by a mix of snow and rain until approximately 10 a.m. From then on, rain is forecasted until midnight, with gusty winds persisting throughout the day. However, the snow is not expected to accumulate as temperatures are anticipated to reach the low 50s.
The NWS warns of another winter storm approaching the area on Friday and lasting through Saturday, bringing with it rain, snow, and strong winds once again. Following this storm, a cold spell is expected.
In the meantime, residents are advised to stay updated on the changing weather conditions and follow any instructions or guidelines provided by local authorities. Take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and minimize any potential damage or risks associated with the severe weather expected in the Harrisburg area.
Stay prepared and stay informed as the region copes with the incoming storm and the potential for flooding and high winds.
