Gulf Coast Schools Adjust Schedules in Preparation for Severe Weather

In anticipation of severe weather approaching the Gulf Coast, several schools in the Mobile, Alabama area have announced changes to their schedules and after-school activities. Additionally, schools in surrounding counties in Alabama and Florida have also taken precautions to ensure the safety of their students and staff.
Mobile County Public School System has made the decision to cancel all after-school activities for Monday, with a keen focus on the safety of their students. Private schools in the area, such as St. Luke's Episcopal School, have also adjusted their schedules, with after-school care ending at 5 p.m. and the cancellation of the middle school basketball game. All other after-school activities have been called off.
St. Paul's Episcopal School has followed suit, ending all after-school activities at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. In Chickasaw City Schools, an early dismissal has been implemented, with Pre-K letting out at 1:30 p.m., kindergarten through sixth grade dismissed at 2 p.m., and seventh grade through twelfth grade dismissed at 1:30 p.m.
Escambia County Public School System in Alabama will be conducting an e-learning day on Tuesday, ensuring that students can continue their education from the safety of their homes. Baldwin County Public Schools have decided to forgo after-school activities on Monday, while still providing after-school care.
In Escambia County, Florida, the school system has canceled all classes on Tuesday as well as after-school activities on Monday. Similarly, Satsuma City Schools will not have after-school activities on Monday and will open late at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, with bus routes delayed by two hours.
Saraland City Schools have also canceled all after-school activities for Monday, prioritizing student safety. George County Public Schools in Mississippi will be released an hour early on Monday as a precautionary measure.
The Okaloosa County School District has taken assertive action by canceling both after-school activities and tutoring sessions on Monday, as well as closing schools on Tuesday, January 9. Orange Beach City Schools have announced delayed start times for Tuesday, with Orange Beach Elementary School starting at 9 a.m. and Orange Beach Middle/High School starting at 9:30 a.m. Bus pick-up times will be approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes later than normal, with a grab-and-go breakfast provided to students.
Santa Rosa County District Schools in Florida have canceled all after-school activities for Monday and Tuesday, with plans to resume regular schedules on Wednesday, January 10. Clarke County Schools in Alabama have canceled after-school activities for Monday but will hold classes on Tuesday, January 9, with close monitoring of the weather. Washington County School District in Alabama has opted for a late start on Tuesday, with bus pick-ups beginning at 7:30 a.m. and school campuses opening at 8:15 a.m.
Conecuh County Schools in Alabama have made the decision to close on Tuesday in light of the severe weather conditions.
