The New Hampshire Lottery has suspended the charitable gaming license of former state Senator Andy Sanborn, following allegations of misusing COVID-19 relief funds. The suspension was enacted on Thursday, after a hearing officer ruled in favor of the lottery commission's decision to suspend Sanborn's license for a period of six months.

As a result of the suspension, Sanborn's Concord Casino will be forced to shut down starting January 1st. Lottery officials have clarified that if the business remains unsold during the subsequent six-month period, the license will be permanently revoked.

The allegations against Sanborn stem from an investigation conducted by the attorney general's office. It has been claimed that Sanborn made personal use of over $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funds, which includes the purchase of three luxury race cars. Notably, Sanborn's wife, Rep. Laurie Sanborn, did not attend the recent hearing, citing a medical appointment.

Despite efforts to contact Sanborn's attorney for comment, News 9, as of now, has not received a response.

The suspension of Sanborn's charitable gaming license brings attention to the misuse of critical relief funds during the ongoing pandemic. The New Hampshire Lottery's action serves as a strong statement against any alleged misconduct and offers a clear warning to those who seek to exploit resources earmarked for public welfare.

Individuals, organizations, and government agencies are urged to exercise utmost care and transparency while handling and distributing COVID-19 relief funds. The protection and efficient utilization of these resources remain paramount in the collective fight against the virus and its socio-economic impact.

The case against Sanborn underscores the serious consequences that follow the misuse of public resources during a crisis. It highlights the need for stringent oversight and accountability measures to ensure that relief funds reach those who are truly in need.
