Former President Donald Trump testified on Thursday in the civil defamation damages trial related to E. Jean Carroll's allegations of sexual assault against him. Trump vehemently denied the allegations and stood by his previous statements during the trial, where he was asked three questions by the defense.

In response to the first question about whether he watched his deposition played in court, Trump confirmed that he had seen it. When asked if he stands by his statements in the deposition, the former President replied, "100 percent. Yes." Trump further stated that he never threatened Carroll in his tweets and social media posts but rather was defending himself against what he believed to be a false allegation.

However, the judge disallowed Trump's statements that went beyond a simple yes or no answer. Trump, visibly frustrated, expressed his discontent upon leaving the courtroom, repeatedly stating, "This is not America."

Trump has consistently maintained that Carroll's allegations are fabricated, suggesting that her motives behind the lawsuit were driven by a desire to sell copies of her book. He has repeatedly claimed that he has "absolutely no idea who this woman is" during his interviews with Fox News Digital.

Carroll, who is 79 years old, accused Trump of raping her in a department store dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman store in Manhattan in 1996. While a federal jury in New York City ruled last year that Trump was not liable for rape, they held him responsible for sexual abuse and defamation, ordering him to pay $5 million in damages.

In a recent post on his Truth Social account, Trump shared images of Carroll's tweets dating back to 2015, highlighting her shifting statements about the alleged incident. He also accused her of being coached by attorney Roberta Kaplan, whom he referred to as a "Lunatic Radical Left Democrat operative." Trump asserted that he, not Carroll, was the one being harmed by an attempted extortion.

The trial is being presided over by Judge Lewis A. Kaplan. The proceedings and Trump's testimony have attracted significant attention, marking a crucial moment in a longstanding legal battle between the former President and Carroll.

It remains to be seen how the testimony and subsequent developments in the trial will impact the outcome and the larger political landscape as the 2024 campaign trail continues.
