In a new year's message, former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on President Joe Biden's immigration policies, accusing him of attempting to rig the 2024 presidential election by allowing illegal migrants to vote. The accusations come amidst growing concerns over border security and highlight the potential significance of immigration as a hot-ticket issue for the upcoming election.

Trump's message, posted on Saturday, targeted Biden and his "group of radical Left misfits and thugs" for their alleged role in attempting to undermine the nation through "lawfare, invasion, and rigging elections." He asserted that their reluctance to increase security on the southern US border was a deliberate attempt to sign up illegal migrants as voters for the 2024 presidential elections.

Federal law explicitly prohibits non-citizens, including illegal migrants, from participating in elections. However, Trump's message suggests that he plans to continue pushing accusations of electoral fraud throughout his campaign this year, in a continuation of similar claims made regarding the 2020 election result, which are currently the subject of a criminal trial in Georgia.

Trump and his associates are facing racketeering charges in Georgia, as they have been accused of attempting to overturn Biden's victory and spreading false claims about the validity of the result. Another trial, set to commence this year in Washington DC, will further investigate allegations of Trump's interference with the election outcome, with claims of attempting to defraud the American people.

Critics of Trump's allegations argue that he is using politically-motivated attacks to discredit the courts and the electoral process. Some opponents even contend that an amendment to the US constitution prevents him from running for office due to his involvement in "insurrection" against the United States. This has sparked contrasting views, as his rivals condemn the cases against him, while Obama strategist David Axelrod warns of potential civil unrest if Trump is prevented from running.

The issue of border security has already become a central theme in early campaigns for Republican candidates. GOP congressmen have also been obstructing Biden's Ukraine spending plans, demanding stronger measures to repel illegal migrants. In a recent defiant move, the state of Texas sent a bus filled with 50 migrants to New York City, defying an executive order from Mayor Eric Adams.

Polls indicate that President Biden's handling of immigration does not resonate well with the American public. In response to record migration figures in Texas, Biden recently agreed to continue construction on the border wall initiated by Trump. In an effort to address the influx, officials from the US and Mexico have pledged to reduce the number of migrants coming from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Haiti.

As the 2024 presidential election draws near, the issue of immigration appears to be gaining traction and capturing public attention. Trump's accusations against the Biden administration, regarding allowing illegal migrants to vote and rigging the election, further fuel the ongoing debate surrounding border security and electoral integrity.
